Cheri Newton – is a screenwriter, playwright, and novelist who develops character-driven drama and genre storytelling across historical, contemporary and speculative worlds. 

Her most recent screenplay is LAW OF SIMILARS (formerly entitled THE HOMEOPATH’S DAUGHTER), a prestige historical drama. 

Her screenplay MUDLARKS was placed in the top 20% of the Academy Nicholl Fellowships, while her romantic drama LOVE IN AN AGE OF WAR (formerly entitled MAIL ORDER BRIDE) achieved a semi-finalist ranking at the Moondance International Film Festival. Additionally her play, THE LETTER, was shortlisted in the final rounds of  judging for the prestigious Sir Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama Writing. The content of that play served as catalyst for developing the material into a deeper dramatic work: MRS NEWTON’S COTTAGE, a legacy piece inspired by her own family legacy. 

Cheri’s writing draws on a diverse background spanning journalism, international relations, and screenwriting, including 15 years living and working in the UK. She holds a master’s degree in American Media and Popular Culture (Film and Screenwriting), a BA in International Relations and a Diploma in Homeopathy.

Additional work includes travel writing published in The Boston Globe and artist profiles, travel and cultural subjects in regional publications.
